Polygiene Toilet Seats

World-first Enware toilet seat with built-in hygiene joins
 the global war on disease

A toilet seat with disease-killing power built into the polymer from which it is manufactured is being introduced to Australia in a world first by Enware Australia's Caredesign specialist interior division.

The Dania seat from Enware's Pressalit ranges incorporates Polygiene(r) from Perstorp AB, the first product known to kill the SARs coronavirus and several disease-causing bacteria and yeast on contact.

Enware Caredesign National Product Manager Mr Tim Knowles says the flat profile Dania seat incorporating Polygiene is aimed particularly at hospital, hospitality and health care markets but has applications throughout industry and commerce wherever people share toilets. The seat is designed to be suitable for wheelchair applications.

"Infection control is a major OHS issue throughout diverse industries as well as being of obvious concern in public buildings, airports, transport terminals, hotels, restaurants, age care facilities and health facilities everywhere."

Developed over three years in Scandinavia - which is an international leader in age and health care design - Polygiene technology is formulated for  incorporation into injection and compression moulded polymers for ultra-hygienic applications (such as toilet seats, light switches, door handles, change tables, hand rails and telephones).

"Australia is the first place in the world where it has been introduced into the Dania toilet seat. If it achieves widespread acceptance in our health-conscious market, we believe the manufacturer Pressalit may use the experience to roll it out world wide," said Mr Knowles.

In addition to germ-killing capabilities, Polygiene amino compounds offer outstanding strength and durability, a ceramic-like feel and sound, and good aesthetics. The materials are also non-toxic, chemical resistant and provide good electrical insulating and inherent flame retardant properties.

The Dania toilet seat into which the technology is incorporated is made from scratch and burn-resistant Duroplast. "Scratches can be an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, so the seat's scratch resistance and easy-clean design with stainless hinges make it a health asset," said Mr Knowles.

The seat, which comes with a three-year guarantee, can be used in conjunction with a stylish toilet support system incorporating folding arms and seating features especially designed for people with some physical limitations who wish to maintain independent lifestyle and personal dignity.

The Pressalit Model 1170 support system distributed by Enware Caredesign is part of an internationally respected Scandinavian Pressalit range of toiletware known internationally for its "Keep Living" design philosophy.
